Mass Street Music is proud and excited to present a very special Jazz Combo Concert and Clinic on Saturday, August 2nd at 5:30 pm with three of the best and hardest working jazz musicians in the business today: drummer Todd Strait sponsored by Bosphorus Cymbals, Lawrence guitarist Brian Baggett, and bassist Bob Bowman. Come check out their perspectives on playing in a combo and hear why these pros are so sought after. Their roots are in KC- Strait and Bowman have worked together in the group Interstring for years - though their careers have taken them to different areas. They've played with Karrin Allyson, Kevin Mahogany, Angela Hagenbach, the Marian McPartland Trio, Woody Herman's Thundering Herd and many, many more. Guitarist Baggett studied with Danny Embrey, and Rod Fleeman and has himself been teaching guitar for 12 years in addition to performing with artists like Bobby Watson, Angela Hagenbach, Steve Houghton and others.
August 2nd they'll share their music and their insights. Bring your questions on comping, interplay and repertoire. The evening begins with a performance and ends with a Q&A clinic. On his latest album, "Tunesmith Retrofit" Phelps delves deeper into singer/songwriter territory with astounding results. Mass Street Music is proud to join with Chris Freeman in presenting a very special evening with Kelly Joe Phelps at the historic Folly Theater in Kansas City, Missouri on Saturday, March 22nd at 7:00 p.m. Special guest Bob Harvey opens the show.

We're very pleased to welcome back Don Ross and Andy McKee for an evening of masterful fingerstyle music. Entertaining and inspiring, Ross and McKee are simply spectacular live and we look forward to hosting them this time at the Lawrence Community Theater, which has fantastic acoustics. Andy McKee took 3rd place in the 2001 National Fingerstyle Guitar Competition at Winfield and 1st place in the 2004 Kansas Fingerstyle Guitar Competition. Canadian sensation Don Ross is the only person to have won the National Fingerstyle Guitar Competition TWICE - 1988 and 1996. Pete Huttlinger returns to Mass Street Music for another amazing evening of sensational music. Crowned the "King of the Fingerpickers" by Fingerstyle Guitar Magazine, Pete's resume includes a three-year stint with John Denver, performances with the San Diego and Houston symphonies, and a first-place finish at the 2000 National Flat Pick Guitar Championship in Winfield. In addition, Pete has been involved in several Grammy-winning projects and has created two top-selling instructional DVD series for Homespun Tapes. His blend of technical mastery and soul and rock influences is sure to both entertain and inspire you.

Three-time national fiddle champion Byron Berline has has played with and recorded for artists ranging from Earl Scruggs and Bill Monroe to the Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan. The evening promises to be loads of fun for all and a chance to see Byron and his accomplished band - legendary banjo player John Hickman, guitarist Jim Fish, bassist Richard Sharp, and drummer Steve Short. Victor Wooten redefines the word musician. Regaled as the most influential bassist since Jaco Pastorius, Victor is known for his solo recordings and tours, and as a member of the Grammy-winning supergroup, Béla Fleck & The Flecktones. He is an innovator on the bass guitar, as well as a talented composer, arranger, producer, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist. But those gifts only begin to tell the tale of this Tennessee titan.

Peter Ostroushko has come to be regarded as one of the finest mandolin and fiddle players in acoustic music. He has performed extensively throughout North America and Europe, dazzling audiences with his technical abilities and compositions. Peter is most passionate when playing Ostroushko - a rich ethnic mix incorporating his Ukrainian heritage.
Peter is hosting a concert and clinic on Saturday, March 10, 2007. The clinic will be a mandolin workshop at 4:00 p.m.. Clinic tickets are $25. Mass Street Music is thrilled to welcome fingerstyle blues wizard Steve James to the store on Tuesday, October 17th, 2006 for an evening of hand clappin' sing-along folk/blues goodness as the second act of our Master's Series. Steve is a multi-instrumentalist who has played with John Hammond and Bo Diddley and toured the world knockin' people out with his one man show. As an added special event Steve is offering a clinic before his set.
