The last Saturday of each month we're hosting The Elbow Room Workshops. Come to the store 9am - 10am the last Saturday of each month for a free lesson on a variety of music genres. All are welcome, as space allows, no sign up, no fees, just have a good time. Here's what we've got coming up:

PLAY WELL WITH OTHERS - BEGINNER JAM WORKSHOP

Ready to start picking and playing with others? Want to know the 'etiquette' of dropping into a bluegrass jam, taking a turn soloing and more? Join Martha Haehl and Mike Walker, authors of the great book Play Well With Others: A Musicians’s Guide to Jamming Like a Pro, as they take you through the basics of joining others in a jam session. The great Steve Kaufman will be performing here at Mass Street Music on Saturday, April 17, 2010, at 7:30p.m. We're very excited to have this superb musician here. Steve's music covers a broad range of styles, including bluegrass, swing, Irish and Appalachian fiddle tunes and folk and country classics. He's been captivating audiences from California to Austria since 1976 and is the author of more than 100 instructional materials as well as 18 recordings to date. While in town, Steve will also be teaching two workshops - a Mandolin Workshop and a Guitar Workshop. Limited seating, so get your tickets now - only $15. The great Steve Kaufman will be leading this great "2-Day, 8-Hour, All-Level Guitar Workshop" here at Mass Street Music. It begins on Friday, April 16, from 7:00p.m. to 9:00p.m. AND runs through Saturday, April 17, 9:30a.m. to around 3:30p.m., with a break around noon. Bring your guitar! On Friday night, Steve will get to know each student, answer questions, give pointers and evaluate each student's strengths and weaknesses. Steve will then tailor the Saturday workshop for the group where he will cover core picking skills and techniques, repertoire and building blocks for growth. Space is limited. His show here last September was phenomenal and we're lucky to have him back this summer! Exceptional blues player, renowned storyteller, prolific author and teacher Roy Book Binder will be performing at Mass Street Music on Friday, June 11 at 7:30 p.m.. Book Binder studied at the hand of Rev. Gary Davis and through his legendary performances has kept alive stories and songs from the past as well as entertaining with original compositions. He's also opened the world of music to many new players with more instructional books and dvds than you can shake a stick at. From blues and ragtime to folk and country blues, he's a real musical raconteur and we're very excited to host this phenomenal player and entertainer.
