I never cease to be amazed by Don's guitars and this Grosh Retro Classic VT is no exception. This is just a beautiful repro of one of the most classic designs of all time - but taken to the next level. You only need to play this guitar for two minutes and you absolutely fall in love with the way it feels. The medium large roundback neck has such a retro vibe, but fortunately the 10" radius and meticulously finished 6105 frets allow for much easier playability. Grosh actually rounds the neck and frets off, to create a great "played in" feel. The body also has the Back Contour which adds yet another level of refined comfort. The weight (6 pounds, 10 ounces) is perfect and the Butterscotch finish is not only flawless, but the looks just make you pick the instrument up automatically. No motivation necessary to play this one.
How about the sound? Simply amazing. We feel Don has the best wood out there and this Swamp Ash body coupled with the one-piece Maple neck create almost endless sustain. It just makes playing more effortless when the tone is right - and the sustain and resonant quality of the instrument don't leave you searching for another note due to quickly decaying tone. On the contrary, a guitar like this allows you to play less when necessary and still create great feel. Fit and finish is second to none. This is the instrument you could have for a lifetime and never grow tired of. -John
