Third year in a row, we're proud to say Mass St. Music was named one the Top 10 Dr. Z Amps dealers (2007, 2008, and 2009!) - we just love these amps! We're proud of our accolades and proud to be able to offer these incredible amps.
There really isn't much that we can say about the good Doctor's amps that would mean half as much as plugging into one, even for a minute. Utilizing unique, simple designs that are reminiscent of classic vintage amps without copying them, Dr. Z's philosophy is simple: create an amp that sounds good at all volume levels, with all types of guitars, in the studio, in the bedroom, and on stage that actually creates a synergy with the player. From his latest, the killer Z Monza to the meat and potatoes MAZ combos to the Route 66 head and Remedy Head. So many Dr. Z amps are finding their way into professionals' live and studio setups. But the fun doesn't end there! Every Dr. Z design we have tried is dripping with tone and soul. Crank up a Prescription head and listen as the distortion tones "dance and swirl" around every note. Or plug a hollowbody into a Dr. Z Carmen Ghia combo and hear Class A warmth and clarity at its finest. Build quality is top notch, Z's personal attention to service is outstanding, and the price is surprisingly affordable. Z builds only a few hundred amps a year, so availability is limited. To top it off, there are many cool cosmetic options to choose from with Dr. Z Amps, especially the hard wood front option and colored tolex!

"For such a simple appearance, this Dr. Z Carmen Ghia Head contains some of the most complex, rich guitar tones. It's incredibly touch sensitive, so playing with dynamics is a total blast. Single coils, humbuckers, P-90s...they all respond very well with this amp due to the VERY effective tone knob. You can find the sweet spot very easily with just a small turn. At this price point, or any price point for that matter, you can't go wrong with a Carmen Ghia. Over the years I've sold these to everybody from chicken pickers to jazz fusion guys and they've all found their perfect tone!" - Brian S.
At first glance, this head looks rather.. well, modest. This is why this amp leaves so many people floored from the first note. Clean notes come out with a warmth, complexity, and sustain like one has never heard from such a small amp. Every note has a hugeness to it that seems far beyond an 18 watt head. All this comes before the amp really starts to sing. As you turn the Volume clockwise, the fun factor increases. The big clean notes get even BIGGER than they were before. Sustain becomes as smooth and musical as you have ever heard it. Notes seem to sing forever. This is an incredibly fun amp, and you'll have trouble putting your guitar down. The Dr. Z Carmen Ghia Head interacts with the player because the player can feel the power tube distortion.

This Dr. Z Carmen Ghia 112 Combo is extremely pedal friendly...I don't think I've ever plugged anything into this amp (guitars or effects) and gotten a tone I didn't like. If you're not into bells and whistles and want to get straight to the goods, this is the one for you. A perfect grab-and-go amp for any gig or recording session. Plus, what a killer price for an amp of this caliber. -Brian S.
This killer combo amp is one 12" Celestion G12 speaker, two knobs, and ALL ROCK!! This amp is so cool it's ridiculous. Clean or dirty, this all-tube, 18-watt power house will forever change your mind about channel switching, active EQ, dip switches and all the other bells and whistles other tube amp companies throw at you to convince you the tone of their amps is better than it really is. Perfect for club and studio use, the one tone knob on this Dr. Z Carmen Ghia 112 is surprisingly versatile.

This Dr. Z Monza 1x12 Combo packs a nice aggressive punch, but when cranked tends to sag a bit more for that nice, saturated Billy Gibbons flavor. Dial in just the right amount of gain for a great classic rock tone that will make you blow the dust off your vinyl copy of Kiss Alive and rock out! - Brian S.
"This amp is nothing but pure fun. It has been labeled "billy in a box" and its definitely got that ZZ thing about it but it also has a sweet edgy clean tone when you back of the guitars volume that is super responsive to touch. A delicate pick attack gives you a nice clean bluesy tone but the more you dig in the more dirt you can speckle your tone with till you bring the volume up on your guitar for full gain. All in all this Dr. Z Monza 1x12 Combo is just a blast to play." - John F.

Fabulous sounding Dr. Z Maz 38 Sr NR 212 combo. This is used and in Mint condition. This is the non-verb version loaded with Celestion Alnico Blues. We love the sound of this running into the Blues speakers. It's all here, Voxey chime, Blackface sparkle and woody British overdrive when pushed hard. Takes pedals extremely well, and Oh...yeah...it's gorgeous too with a custom hardwood front panel. In Mint condition, speakers have very few hours on them and begging to be cranked! $2,050 Consignment item, sorry no free shipping. USED
This Dr. Z Remedy Head is nothing short of amazing. No wonder every review gives it the highest ratings. It has such a beautiful Plexi sound, but I find it to be much richer. It can drive like a Plexi but it also has an amazing clean tone when backing off the volume. Fantastically dynamic as well so it is so soulful. I can not imagine a better amp of this type out there, and it is priced so competitively. It gets a 10 out of 10 from me." - John F.
This super-responsive, super-articulate, plexi-style moderate gain rock machine sports 4 6v6 tubes and a bad attitude, can roar like a lion and purr like a kitten- all with a slight manipulation of your guitar's volume knob. I was excited at the prospect of this particular Z amp and I was not disappointed. - Jason J.
Those who seek the full on assault and sweet crunch of the Plexi style circuit will find just the ticket with this head, here in blonde. Using four 6V6s and coming in at 40 watts you'll have all the spit and growl on hand for burning your guitar at Monterey or playing High Voltage rock and roll. This features a one-of-a-kind half-power circuit. Flip the switch on the rear panel and go from 40 watts to 20 watts with no alteration to your sound. This isn’t your grandpa’s half power switch. You’ll experience the same sonic joy and touch sensitive response at either setting.
The front panel features a blended volume configuration - both the High and Normal volumes are at your disposal. You can dial in clear top end and full bodied roundness for any size room. No need to jump the inputs. That’s been taken care of so you can take full advantage of the first 12AX7. A full EQ compliment of Treble, Middle, and Bass is on hand for dialing in your desired sound. The back panel includes 4, 8, and 16 ohm speaker outs, the full/half power switch, and a convenience AC outlet. The Dr. Z Remedy Head is available as a head only and pairs up nicely with any of the Dr. Z extension cabs.

There's nothing that quite compares to the killer Dr. Z Z-Best 2x12 Cab. This is by far my favorite 2x12 cabinet. It has a massive band width that makes Fender based heads sparkle and Marshall based heads crunch. Pairs up perfectly with this Dr. Z Route 66 - for an extremely pedal-friendly, versatile rig that will allow you to cover everything from jazz flavored tones to Beano era Clapton! - Brian S.
The Doctor's prescription is to place the Best vertically for a tuned, more focused sound that still maintains the airy qualities of open back cabs. Rock it horizontally and you'll get a bit more low end as the port is coupled with the floor. A long throw cabinet that gets your sound permeating the entire room. Loaded with a Celestion Vintage 30 and a Celestion G12H30. This Dr. Z Z-Best 2x12 Cab has long been one of our absolute faves from the good doc.

Nice deal on a super clean early era Dr. Z Z Best 212 Cab. This is in Excellent condition. This closed back cab still pumps it out like no other and at 4 ohms would make the perfect extension cab for your vintage Fender, if you're looking for that supreme sonic tone. Easily removable Marshall casters added. Cool blonde cab with brown grill cloth. $669. Consignment item, sorry no free shipping. USED
"With all of the new models that Dr. Z has created over the past five or six years, the Dr. Z MAZ 38 Sr 212 still has to be one of my favorites. It takes to Strats equally as well as LP style guitars and has really become a benchmark that I compare other Vox and Fender based amps to. From stage to studio, I've never been able to get a tone out of a MAZ that I didn't enjoy!" - Brian S.
It's all here, Voxey chime, Blackface sparkle and woody British overdrive when pushed hard. Takes pedals extremely well. Not long ago, the good doctor incorporated the phase inverter design from the MAZ 18 Jr, to the the MAZ 38 Sr., so now it uses no negative feedback - giving you more thickness, more harmonic content, and more sustain. He also replaced the presence control with the extremely useful "Cut" control. Tones with this Dr. Z Maz 38 Senior 212 are clear, crisp, and responsive to the player's nuances - as it should be.

The Dr. Z Galaxie Head is the good doctor's take on a tweed Super - and so much more. Similar crunch to a Marshall JCM-800 yet more definition in the midrange. Easy front panel layout, 2 channels, complete with footswitch. The preamp consists of three 12AX7s coupled to a dual 6L6 output section and rectified by a 5U4. The Galaxie features a pentode/triode switch on the rear of the amp, enabling 40 watts in pentode setting and 30 watts in triode.
Here's Jason's take on this killer amp: A blues-rocker’s dream, the Galaxie is a 6L6 driven circuit that features a channel switching option that delivers warm, punchy clean and expressive, gritty overdrive with a click of a button. Going with the head is also a very affordable and versatile choice, allowing you to use different cabinets to achieve the exact blues tone that suits you best! - Jason

Jason cranked up this Dr. Z Mazerati GT Head using this Grosh Electrajet Standard through a Dr. Z Z Best Cab. What an incredible hard rock rig! Made me think of Coheed & Cambria and Paramore (for you modern rock folks). Unbelievable!! -Brian S.
This head is loaded with 12AX7s, four EL84s, and a 5AR4 rectifier and takes top honors as one of the most versatile and most portable heads ever. Dr. Z sums it up best: "You're in for a whole new ride. Our goal with this design is to provide you the simplest platform to achieve that elusive “boutique” high gain tone....
