There really isn't much that we can say about the good Doctor's amps that would mean half as much as plugging into a Dr. Z amp, even for a minute. The Good Dr. Z has done it again. In his own words, this Dr. Z EZG 50 is "My spin on the blackface reverb head that never was". The EZG-50 has a very definitive 6L6 clean sound. Whether you are lusting after the classic “El Mocambo” tone, looking to surf the big waves, or want twang straight out of Bakersfield, the EZG-50 will satisfy the most discriminating blackface tone seeker. The seed of the amp came from a new 6L6 output transformer designed for Z Amps by Ken Fischer. The output transformer has a very unique impedance not used by other American amp makers. This is one of the key factors to the EZG-50s sound.
NOS Allen Bradley carbon comp resistors are used in all critical tone positions of the EZG-50 circuit. These classic resistors add a warmth and depth to the tone that only they can give. The EZG-50 features a 2-knob all tube reverb. The Dwell and Mix controls give you full authority over your reverb needs. Anything from a subtle tail on the note to a full-on surf assault is at your command. You also get a full EQ and a Pre and Post master volume. Around back you’ll find 16, 8, and 4 ohm speaker outs to accommodate any cabinet. This Dr. Z Z Best 212 Cab is a Celestion Vintage 30/G12H30 loaded Theile ported cab. Flat out the best sounding 2 x 12" cab in existence.-Grant. The low end is determined by the port thickness, Mid response by the shelf depth, and Top end by choice of speakers. Placed vertically, the Z Best delivers a tuned focused sound, yet has the airy qualities associated with open back cabs. Placed horizontally, you pick a bit more low end as the port is then coupled with the floor. This is a long throw cabinet that will get the sound to the back of the room. The Dr. Z Air Brake is hands down, one of the best power attenuators on the market today. Very neutral and true to the original tone of the amp. Simple and easy to use. Everybody with a loud tube amp should have one! At a gig, the Z Air Brake is can help limit your overall dB level at any time during a performance, allowing you to manage your amp's overall volume without varying from your amp's favorite settings. This Dr. Z Prescription Extra Strength Head has become the most sought after Z amp out there. They only build one Rx a week, so they're like gold to find but we have this one in stock at last. Sounding nothing like the old Prescription, Z is using a brand new Ken Fisher inspired transformer set offering huge bandwidth, silky dynamics and unreal clarity from a quartet of EL84s. Z is a big fan of the EF86 pre-amp tube and this time it is being utilized as the tone stack tube instead of the first stage like on the Route 66/Z28/KT45/Delta88. Dr. Z discontinued the Mini Z Combo last year, but has brought the mini back with this Dr. Z Mini Z Head, and man is it cool! Here in black on black. This little powerhouse will curl your toes with its capabilities - The Doctor added a built in attenuator, now you can turn it up to get maximum output tube distortion and 'dial it back to apartment dweller approved levels'. This can also shine on smaller gigs where volume is a concern. It has dedicated 8 and 4 ohm outs for different speaker cab applications. Put it on top of your favorite cab and go for it. A single EL84, a single 12AX7, 5 watts down to under 1 watt. In the doctor's own words: Cleaner tones can be achieved by rolling back the guitar volume. But, if you're like the rest of us, that'll last about 30 seconds and then you'll have the guitar on 10 and be wailing away again...The breakup begins lightly at around 9 o'clock on the dial, and the sound gets fatter and fatter with more gain as you turn up the volume. Want a nice and crunchy rhythm tone? It's at about 10-11 o'clock. Want a nice, sustaining tone for leads? It's at high-noon. Want ZZ-top? It's at about 2-3 o'clock. Want over the top saturation? Crank it all the way up. The amp gets both louder AND more distorted as you turn it up, so it's "quite a ride." Most will find a happy setting between 12 and 2 o'clock on this Dr. Z Mini Z Head and control the volume and tone with their guitar.

New from the doctor! This Dr. Z Galaxie 210 Combo is one killer channel switching amp at a fantastic price. This combines classic tweed clean tones and smooth modern drive sounds. The clean channel nails the sweet swirling sound of classic tweed amps that have become the foundation of electric guitar tone. The drive channel is the result of Dr. Z's 20 years of design experience. It has excellent sustain and a rich, open sound with plenty of gain on tap for today needs. The output transformer is made by the venerable Triad company and is to the original spec found in classic tweed amps like the Super, Pro, and low powered Twin. The Dr. Z Galaxie Head is the good doctor's take on a tweed Super - and so much more. Similar crunch to a Marshall JCM-800 yet more definition in the midrange. Easy front panel layout, 2 channels, complete with footswitch. The preamp consists of three 12AX7s coupled to a dual 6L6 output section and rectified by a 5U4. The Galaxie features a pentode/triode switch on the rear of the amp, enabling 40 watts in pentode setting and 30 watts in triode.

Using the classic setup of a quartet of EL84s biased close to true Class A at 30 watts, the Dr. Z Stang Ray Head tips its hat to classic British tones, but like all Dr.Z amps, has its own unique voice. The preamp uses an EF-86, and it has a 12AX7 phase inverter. Tone shaping is accomplished with Volume, Tone, and Cut controls, giving you the ability to dial up a warm tone, but with sweet 3k range brilliance for beautiful upper treble and nice low-midrange control. The output transformer was designed by Ken Fischer (Trainwreck), who also worked with Dr.Z on the Airbrake. In the Doctor's own words: "Its notes are thick but still articulate. Its sound is full and defined, but not thin. It is full of rich resonance with deep sustain. It is brilliant with shimmering top end, but no inner ear pain. Strong mids that don't pinch off, and a rich warm low end that stays defined and blends for a 3 dimensional balance." The Dr. Z StangRay Head is just what the doctor ordered.
