There really isn't much that we can say about the good Doctor's amps that would mean half as much as plugging into one, even for a minute. Utilizing unique, simple designs that are reminiscent of classic vintage amps without copying them, Dr. Z's philosophy is simple: create an amp that sounds good at all volume levels, with all types of guitars, in the studio, in the bedroom, and on stage that actually create a synergy with the player. From his smaller essential innovations like the Brake Lite Attenuator to the killer Monza amp to the meat and potatoes MAZ combos, Route 66 and Remedy Head, Z is outstanding. Every Dr. Z design we have tried is dripping with tone and soul. Crank up a Prescription head and listen as the distortion tones "dance and swirl" around every note. Or plug a hollowbody into a Dr. Z Carmen Ghia combo and hear Class A warmth and clarity at its finest. Build quality is top notch, Z's personal attention to service is outstanding, and the price is surprisingly affordable. Z builds only a few hundred amps a year, so availability is limited. This Dr. Z Maz 8 210 Combo Amp gives you that great Maz 18 tone at a reduced wattage. This has 4 12AX7s and a 12AT7 preamp so you can run the gamut from the great cleans to full on rock at 8 watts without sacrificing tone. The single EL84 output section can be run in Pentode or Triode mode giving you real versatility. Pentode gives you the sonic signature of the Maz 18 with the chimey top end and sweet low end bloom all there, but at a significantly lower volume. Plenty of dynamic range for clean country picking to grinding riff rock bliss. You can even take it a step beyond with the footswitchable EQ bypass function for a great gain boost on effortless leads that will sustain for days.
The Maz 8 takes on a much different dialect in Triode mode with more of a vintage feel and sound - the volume level drops back and the tone fattens up making you think you plugged into a lost gem from the 1950s. Kicking on the EQ bypass in Triode mode will have you reaching for your slide. The back panel features a 4, 8, and 16 ohm speaker out. An effects loop and EQ bypass are standard, and the footswitch is included. Check out to experience all that this 8 can do. This Dr. Z Prescription Junior Head is used, in Excellent condition and comes with the footswitch. It's also a 2008 and bears the doc's swanky 20th anniversary logo on top (see photo). This Z gives you the same sonic sensibilities of the ES - designed by Dr. Z and Brad Paisely - at half the power. This killer amp features a post phase inverter master volume, 3 dB footswitchable boost, EF86 post EQ gain layout, a pair of cathode biased EL84s, and a 5Y3 rectifier. With the post phase inverter master volume, you can maintain your tonal integrity while controlling the overall output. Now this isn't something you see everyday...a Dr. Z Carmen Ghia - Matchless 112 Combo Amp. This is a Z Ghia in a well built Matchless enclosure and it looks as sweet as it plays. This a great deal on a used Dr.Z Z Best 212 Cab in Excellent Plus condition. It's a closed-back cab that'll blow your socks off. This has a Theile ported design, allowing you to dial in the full frequency range of the guitar. Low end is determined by the port thickness, Mid response by the shelf depth, and Top end by choice of speakers. Placed vertically, the this delivers a tuned focused sound, yet has the airy qualities associated with open back cabs. When placed horizontally, you get a bit more low end as the port is then coupled with the floor. This is a long throw cab that will get the sound to the back of the room. This is loaded with a Celestion Vintage 30 and Celestion G12H30. The Dr. Z Z Best 212 Cab is one of our store all-time favorites. $600. Consignment item, sorry shipping not included. USED
The Good Dr. strikes again - just receive this Dr. Z EZG-50 Head. In the doc's own words, this is "My spin on the blackface reverb head that never was". This has a very definitive 6L6 clean sound, and whether you want a classic 'El Mocambo' tone, or a twang straight from Bakersfield, the EZG-50 will not disappoint. With a new 6L6 output transformer designed for Z Amps by Ken Fischer, this amp employs a very unique impedance not used by other American makers, and this difference is one of the key factors to the EZG-50s splendid sound. Also, NOS Allen Bradley carbon comp resistors are used in all critical tone positions of the EZG-50 circuit. These classic resistors lend a one-of-a-kind depth and warmth to this amp's tone.
The EZG-50 features a stunning, 2-knob all tube reverb. Capture a subtle echo at the back end of the note, to full-on surf using the Dwell and Mix controls. Further dial-in your sound with Treble, Mid, and Bass controls, as well as Pre and Post Master Volume knobs. 16, 8, and 4 ohm speaker outs accommodate any cabinet. With 2 knob reverb, a tube rectifier, and 50 Watts of clean power, this Dr. Z EZG-50 Head is the blackface head that never was - and one of our favorites from the Doc.

This Brake-Lite Attenuator can insure your full-on sound at any volume. Just slap this into the back of your combo amp (easily mounts inside), plug it in and you're able to get the sound of your amp on 'eleven' at a volume you can play anywhere. The Brake Lite works with any tube amp up to 45 watts and can be used with 4, 8, or 16, ohm loads.
Very simple to install, the Brake Lite mounts with 2 screws and has a hardwired speaker cable to plug into the amp chassis. PRICE DROP! Save over $400! This Dr. Z Monza 1x12 Combo packs a nice aggressive punch, but when cranked tends to sag a bit more for that nice, saturated Billy Gibbons flavor. "This amp is nothing but pure fun. It has been labeled "billy in a box" and its definitely got that ZZ thing about it but it also has a sweet edgy clean tone when you back of the guitars volume that is super responsive to touch. A delicate pick attack gives you a nice clean bluesy tone but the more you dig in the more dirt you can speckle your tone with till you bring the volume up on your guitar for full gain.
