Dr. Z Amps marks its 20th Anniversary of creating world-class amps with new logo plate on 2008 models! Congrats Dr. Z!
There's a reason Mass St. Music was recently named one the Top 10 Dr. Z amp dealers for 2007 - we love these amps! We're proud of our accolades and proud to be able to offer these incredible amps.
There really isn't much that we can say about the good Doctor's amps that would mean half as much as plugging into a Dr. Z amp, even for a minute. Utilizing unique, simple designs that are reminiscent of classic vintage amps without copying them, Dr. Z's philosophy is simple: create an amp that sounds good at all volume levels, with all types of guitars, in the studio, in the bedroom, and on stage that actually creates a synergy with the player. The meat and potatoes of Dr. Z Amps are the MAZ series combos and the Route 66 head. Both amps are finding their way into many professionals' live and studio setups. But the fun doesn't end there! Every Dr. Z design we have tried is dripping with tone and soul. Crank up a Prescription Head and listen as the distortion tones "dance and swirl" around every note. Or plug a hollowbody into a Carmen Ghia combo and hear Class A warmth and clarity at its finest. Build quality is top notch, Z's personal attention to service is outstanding, and the price is surprisingly affordable. Z builds only a few hundred amps a year, so availability is limited. To top it off, there are many cool cosmetic options to choose from with Dr. Z Amps, especially the hard wood front option and colored tolex!

This Dr. Z Z Best 212 Cab is a Celestion Vintage 30/G12H30 loaded Theile ported cab. Flat out the best sounding 2 x 12" cab in existence.-Grant. The low end is determined by the port thickness, Mid response by the shelf depth, and Top end by choice of speakers. Placed vertically, the Z Best delivers a tuned focused sound, yet has the airy qualities associated with open back cabs. Placed horizontally, you pick a bit more low end as the port is then coupled with the floor. This is a long throw cabinet that will get the sound to the back of the room. The Dr. Z Z Best 212 Cab delivers, in spades.

The Dr. Z Air Brake is hands down, one of the best power attenuators on the market today. Very neutral and true to the original tone of the amp. Simple and easy to use. Everybody with a loud tube amp should have one! At a gig, the Z Air Brake is can help limit your overall dB level at any time during a performance, allowing you to manage your amp's overall volume without varying from your amp's favorite settings. When you're at home, it can help lower volume while still allowing for full output tube distortion. The Dr. Z Air Brake even has a "bedroom" level control that, when selected, will allow for fine adjustment and maximum attenuation down to 1 watt (with amps less than 100 watts.)

Don't confuse the "18 Watt" with "weak and flabby". You'll be amazed by the definition and headroom on this Dr. Z Maz 18 Junior 112 (with Reverb!) - all the way down to the low E. It's got plenty of power for a single 12" speaker. You'll use this amp in small clubs and never think about needing to mic it. Got a larger venue? Mic it and play away, because big amp tone and soul is all there. This would also be a great amp for jazz guitarists, whether you're looking to replace a small blackface amp or looking for an amp with enough complexity for fusion. The Dr. Z Maz 18 Junior 112 is versatile and gives you incredible power for a 112. s/n: S81679

This Dr. Z Prescription Extra Strength Head has become the most sought after Z amp out there. They only build one Rx a week, so they're like gold to find but we have this one in stock at last. Sounding nothing like the old Prescription, Z is using a brand new Ken Fisher inspired transformer set offering huge bandwidth, silky dynamics and unreal clarity from a quartet of EL84s. Z is a big fan of the EF86 pre-amp tube and this time it is being utilized as the tone stack tube instead of the first stage like on the Route 66/Z28/KT45/Delta88. This gives the tone controls a very musical sweep designed to dial in "Active EQ" tonal variances without losing the sweetness of passive controls. Clean or dirty, this amp provides "ultra boutique" tones reminiscent of Trainwrecks, Dumbles and Brunos, without the price tag. Without a doubt, one of the finest sounding amps on the market today and a perfect platform to base a boutique pedal board on, as it will make all your pedals sound better. Tele wielding country pickers, rockers and even jazzers love this amp. Another bonus is its ability to sound awesome with effects at low volumes. Sure it will get ear piercingly loud, but turn it down and pair it with an Xotic AC boost and you have the best sounding low volume amp you have ever heard. This Dr. Z Prescription Extra Strength Head comes with a footswitch to engage the ES - you won't be able to stop playing.

Using the classic setup of a quartet of EL84s biased close to true Class A at 30 watts, the Dr. Z Stang Ray Head tips its hat to classic British tones, but like all Dr.Z amps, has its own unique voice. The preamp uses an EF-86, and it has a 12AX7 phase inverter. Tone shaping is accomplished with Volume, Tone, and Cut controls, giving you the ability to dial up a warm tone, but with sweet 3k range brilliance for beautiful upper treble and nice low-midrange control. The output transformer was designed by Ken Fischer (Trainwreck), who also worked with Dr.Z on the Airbrake. In the Doctor's own words: "Its notes are thick but still articulate. Its sound is full and defined, but not thin. It is full of rich resonance with deep sustain. It is brilliant with shimmering top end, but no inner ear pain. Strong mids that don't pinch off, and a rich warm low end that stays defined and blends for a 3 dimensional balance." The Dr. Z StangRay Head is just what the doctor ordered.

New from the doctor! This Dr. Z Galaxie 210 Combo is one killer channel switching amp at a fantastic price. This combines classic tweed clean tones and smooth modern drive sounds. The clean channel nails the sweet swirling sound of classic tweed amps that have become the foundation of electric guitar tone. The drive channel is the result of Dr. Z's 20 years of design experience. It has excellent sustain and a rich, open sound with plenty of gain on tap for today needs. The output transformer is made by the venerable Triad company and is to the original spec found in classic tweed amps like the Super, Pro, and low powered Twin. Here's what the good doctor had to say of his Dr. Z Galaxie 210 Combo: "I finally got the sound of an original tweed Super out of my head and into an amp...and then some!." Well said.

The Dr. Z Galaxie Head is the good doctor's take on a tweed Super - and so much more. Similar crunch to a Marshall JCM-800 yet more definition in the midrange. Easy front panel layout, 2 channels, complete with footswitch. The preamp consists of three 12AX7s coupled to a dual 6L6 output section and rectified by a 5U4. The Galaxie features a pentode/triode switch on the rear of the amp, enabling 40 watts in pentode setting and 30 watts in triode.

One 12" speaker, two knobs, ALL ROCK!! This amp is so cool it's ridiculous. Clean or dirty, this all tube, 18 watt power house will forever change your mind about channel switching, active EQ, dip switches and all the other bells and whistles other tube amp companies throw at you to convince you the tone of their amps is better than it really is. Perfect for club and studio use, the one tone knob is surprisingly versatile and this amp loves pedals.

At first glance, the Dr. Z Carmen Ghia looks rather, well, modest. This is why this amp leaves so many people floored from the first note. Clean notes come out with a warmth, complexity, and sustain like one has never heard from such a small amp. Every note has a hugeness to it that seems far beyond an 18 watt head. All this comes before the amp really starts to sing. As you turn the Volume clockwise, the fun factor increases. The big clean notes get even BIGGER than they were before. Sustain becomes as smooth and musical as you have ever heard it. Notes seem to sing forever. This is an incredibly fun amp, and you'll have trouble putting your guitar down. The Carmen Ghia interacts with the player because the player can feel the power tube distortion.
This amp is becoming a favorite in recording studios around the world. It's also a great little amp for small clubs. While many other small amps have trouble cutting through the mix and have a rather flatulent low end, your Dr. Z Carmen Ghia will cut through the mix, always tightly and musically.
