Martin 1945 D-28 Herringbone

Martin Acoustic Guitars - 1945 D-28 Herringbone

This vintage 1945 Martin D-28 Herringbone is a true beauty - guitars this nice don't show up every day. The Brazilian here is reminiscent of the wonderful quarter-sawn wood from the early 30s and the Sitka Spruce top has a nice medium wide grain pattern. The body is crack-free and the finish here is all original. It shows minor nicks, scratches and weather checking common to a great guitar that has been played, but never abused. The bridge is original full thickness, as is the fretboard. The saddle height is about 3/32".

The neck has been reset and the workmanship is as good as it gets. The frets may have been replaced, but the quality of work, like the neck set, is top shelf. There is a very minor length-wise hairline crack that runs though the tuner screws, from the low E to the A string tuner, but is not a structural concern (see photo). This 1945 Martin D-28 Herringbone is in Very Good condition and a non-original hard case is included. Questions? Just give us a call at 800-747-9980 or email us at . Serial #92189. - Jim B.

Martin 1955 D-28

Martin Acoustic Guitars - 1955 D-28

This vintage 1955 Martin D-28 is a really great example of a mid-50s Brazilian Rosewood with the quarter-sawn wood we all dream about. This is in Very Good condition - the guitar is crack-free, with the original finish. The Sitka Spruce top is a very dark and tight grained, with one very minor (and typical) pickguard shrinkage crack under the high E string. There are minor nicks, scratches and weather checks, to be expected with something of this age. The original bridge has been shaved slightly, and the two visible pearl dots are tiny non-original bolts (see bridge photo). The installation was very neat and clean, and did not hit the X braces.

The neck angle is very good here and the frets are freshly dressed. There is a name ink-stamped on the back of the peg head, most likely a previous owner. Most importantly, this D-28 has an exceptionally good sound and matching playability. This 1955 Martin D-28 guitar was obviously owned by someone who played it and always took care of it. Original hard case included. Serial #142189. - Jim B.

Martin 00-DB Jeff Tweedy

Martin Acoustic Guitars - 00-DB Jeff Tweedy

This Martin 00-DB Jeff Tweedy was worked up with the Grammy-winner himself, and is quite the player. Tweedy collaborated with Master Luthier John Woodland to design Martin's first Artist model that is FSC (Forestry Stewardship Council) certified. Even the case was made using certified sustainable wood. The result is a deep-bodied (hence the 'DB'), 00-size guitar that has a warm, intimate tone. Mahogany top, back, and sides here, with European Spruce bracing and a Cherry neck block. Not only does this guitar sound great, but it looks fantastic as well with a dark sunburst finish, tortoise binding, and Foden style fingerboard inlays. Interior label signed by Tweedy, serial #266. Comes with a Martin 620 molded hardshell case.
