This vintage 1959 Martin D-28 is a beautiful example of a late 50s era Brazilian Rosewood dreadnought. This has recently been through our repair shop and is a fantastic player, plus it's ready for the long haul (once again) with a new neck reset, refret job and more (read on for the full repairs we did). The Brazilian back and sides on this are truly beautiful. You just don't see this quality of Brazilian these days. The top is a medium tight grained Sitka Spruce, with two minor, repaired top cracks that were related to common shrinkage of the pickguard. The guitar had a crack in the headstock area that ran along the edge of the diamond - it was glued by our shop a few years ago but not touched up at the customer's request. We just recently traded for the guitar and took the opportunity while doing a neck reset to touch up the repaired crack line on the headstock - it is nearly impossible to find the crack. It was minor to begin with and the touch up job our repair shop manager, Mike Horan, did is spectacular. Also the crack is not in an area that would ever be of structural concern.
The back had a very small crack that Mike expertly reglued - it needed no patching. Mike also did a neck reset, a refret, crafted a new saddle, and replaced the bone nut. The bridge is full height original. All of the work Mike did is of the highest quality, resulting in a fine looking, great playing and sounding guitar, renewed and ready for a new life. The inside of the guitar is in very clean condition with the original Maple bridge plate. The case is also original and is in very good condition.
"This is a really great sounding 50s D-28 - nice punch with a good voice." - Mike H., Repair Shop Manager
Other than the finish touch up at the peg head, all the finish is original with no overspray on the body. The guitar has minor play wear, light checking, and a small area of finish blistering on the treble upper bout (see photos) - most likely from the common chemical reaction from a plastic strap. There is very minor wear of the neck finish at the first fret where one's thumb would rest and a few minor capo dings, but otherwise this is in wonderful condition. We're rating as Very Good condition, balancing the repairs and wear with the originality, resulting tremendous sound and restored playability. The guitar is in beautiful shape for being over 50 years old, and with the current high quality work that has been done, this 1959 Martin D-28 should be good for at least another 50. Serial# 168561.

This 1935 Martin Style A Mandolin is a vintage gem. All original except for a few replaced frets, it has a low action and plays very well. Great resonance and sustain, and an especially graceful midrange. Also, it has a beautiful inlaid pickguard. There is a significant amount of playwear, with a few dings on the top and sides, and a repaired side crack that has a finish touch up (see photo). It is in otherwise Very Good condition, especially considering its age. A previous owner added a hook on the back of the headstock (see photo), presumably used for hanging. A great player, this 1935 Martin Style A Mandolin comes with a chipboard hard case. Serial# 15782. USED

The Martin D-28 is a classic acoustic giving you both great volume and balance. Both Hank Williams the Elvis had 'em. They chose well, as this great style gives you rich, resonant tone with beautiful gloss Sitka Spruce top and Indian Rosewood back and sides. This features the classic X bracing, Grover tuners, and a 1 11/16-inch nutwidth. This comes with a Martin hard case as well.
"This is a really nice guitar. The straight braced D-28 is almost always brighter sounding than the scalloped braced HD-28 counterpart. This particular one is bright but it also has nice volume, and is nicely balanced without too much bass. I think this would be a nice guitar for the fingerstyle player looking for a dreadnought or the flatpicker who prefers a little brighter tone." - Tim N.
